Mickey Wilson, known locally in Milikapiti as Fogarty, is a talented Tiwi painter and carver who joined the Jilamara Arts and Crafts Association in 2022. He comes from Jurrupi (Jessie Rover) and inherits the Narringari (Magpie goose) dreaming dance. Reflecting on his early influences, Mickey says, “John Wilson is my dad in Tiwi way [uncle]. I remember watching him painting, carving, mixing colours with his partner, but she has passed away.”
In 2022, Mickey’s work was showcased in several group exhibitions: YOYI (dance) at the Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery at the University of Melbourne, Ngininguwula Kurrujipuni (Our Tiwi Ochre Colours) at the DoubleTree Hilton in Darwin, and the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair at the Darwin Convention Centre.
