Seed Dreaming, 2002
synthetic polymer paint on canvas
- Artwork story
- This story is for Napurrula, Jupurrula, Nakamarra, and Jakamarra skin groups and tells the story of Napurrula and Nakamarra women (mothers and daughters) looking for grass seeds. This story comes from the artist’s mother. The women follow the tracks of ants in order to find gathered seeds. The ants tracks take the women up and down hills. They collect the seeds in their coolamons and then take them home to sort and grind to make in to damper.
The oval shapes are the heaps of seeds and the women can be seen at either side. There is another ceremonial representation of this painting where the Grandmothers pass on the knowledge to the younger women.. This Dreaming took place at Miya Miya north west of the Granites in the Northern Territory.
