Artwork story
Madeline Curley is the daughter of renowned artist, Imitjala Curley. Madeline is a self-taught artist and has developed a fluid and sweeping style of painting the Seven Sisters Dreaming story. Madeline paints the part of the story where the sisters are walking across country trying to escape from the pursuing man, Nyriu. The roundels on the canvas represent the waterholes and rock-holes where the sisters camped and the overlay of finely dotted winding lines are the paths walked by the women. Madeline is a widely exhibited artist, and in 2019 her artwork was projected onto the Sydney Opera House sails. Carolanne was born in 1971 and resides in Fregon, located in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands. Carloanne went to school in Fregon and Woodville High School in Adelaide where she graduated in 1986. Carolanne commenced painting in 2004 at Kaltjiti Arts where she used to assist in studio management before devoting her time to painting full time.
