- In 1976 ABC TV Reporter, Jonathan King was filming in Central Australia reporting on stories like Professor/Dr Fred Hollows operating in army tents to restore eyesight for Aboriginal people suffering from trachoma disease, when he met artist Toby Brown, who was painting on the outskirts of Alice Springs, sitting on the ground, with some of his paintings spread out around him..
Jonathan asked Toby about different paintings then bought this one which Toby described as ceremonial depicting groups of men gathered together for some purpose, perhaps around campfires, but would not elaborate any further the subject was otherwise secret. He then brought the painting back to Sydney overland in the ABC film crew land rover and kept it ever since.
Jonathan who is a descendant of 1788 First Fleet Royal Naval Lieutenant and later NSW Governor Philip Gidley King, went on, after graduating as an Historian, to produce Australia's largest live spectator event - the 1988 Australian Bicentennial London to Sydney First Fleet Re-enactment Expedition of Tall Ships which was greeted by three million cheering spectators on arrival in Sydney Harbour on Australia Day, on which he published a prominent advertisement calling for a Makarrata /Treaty to recognise/enshrine rights of Aborigines, in Sydney Morning Herald.
