Artwork story: Tommy Watson was a senior Pitjantjatjara man whose works resonate with spiritual intensity. He began painting in 2001, when well into his sixties, and quickly rose to acclaim. Though his technique is distinctly contemporary, his works are deeply grounded in the law and geography of his ancestors. In this work he depicted his father's country and the place where he was born. Here, the vivid colours signal the energy of ancestral presence, layered over a surface that shimmers with ceremonial gravity.
