- This finely woven string bag, interlaced with feathers, reflects the distinctive fibre art traditions of Central Arnhem Land. Feathered string bags are rare and highly valued for their ceremonial associations, often linked to women’s ritual practices and the transmission of cultural knowledge. The integration of ochred fibre with soft plumage creates both visual rhythm and symbolic potency. Acquired from Maningrida Arts and Culture in 1996, this example is in excellent condition and testifies to the enduring innovation of fibre works within Arnhem Land communities.
