- Artwork story
- Madigan has painted this work on plywood in the manner of the early artists from Warmun. Gallowryn is located on Madigan's family's country - Violet Valley. It is not far from Winjurun Country and the big spring that has permanent water. ''This painting shows the rock wallaby sticking out from that one hill. He comes out and sits in the sun on the rocky ledge and wags his tail. The old people used to say, lets go out hunting. So they would often chase the rock wallabies into cave area and then smoke them out and stay at the cave entrance and bang them when they came out", says Madigan. Both men and women used to go hunting for rock wallaby. This place is a special hunting place for Madigan's husband, Sandy Thomas', aunties. It is a special place and needs to be protected.
