- Maureen Purvis Kngwarreye was born into an established artistic family in 1962. Her parents are acknowledged artists. Maureen’s mother, Kathleen Kemarre (B.1943) work is represented at Art Gallery of NSW. Her father Greeny Purvis Petyarre (1930-2010) was one of the most sophisticated ground-breaking Australian Aboriginal artists of his time. Emily Kngwarreye (1910-1996) is Maureen's great-aunt. Living in a creative environment and influenced by her family heritage, she began painting early. Emily Kngwarreye was Maureen’s instrumental art teacher. Paying great attention to details, Maureen developed her own unique style. Maureen was involved in the Batik project featured in Utopia 'A Picture Story'. Maureen work is represented in around the world such as Richard Kelton Foundation Santa Monica USA, Homes a Court, Art Gallery of NSW, Museum Art Gallery Northern Territory, Artbank, Kerry Stokes, Art Gallery of Western Australia. Maureen Purvis Kngwarreye work is recognized as modern abstract with element of multi-dimensional space and depth. Maureen’s state-of-the-art work has the sheer physical presence of the much contemporary work of art.
