Ian Waldron’s artistic practice honours the stories and heritage of the Kurtjar people in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Now based in Yungaburra, Far North Queensland, he has cultivated a diverse body of work over recent years, developing series that blend painting and installation. His art often revisits personal and cultural themes, including recurring motifs like the Bloodwood totem and the black cockatoo. Ian’s work has earned national recognition—he won the prestigious Glover Prize in Tasmania in 2010 and has been a three-time finalist in the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. His artworks feature in numerous public and private collections across Australia.
